Our Service

Shiloh is here to help people stay safe today and thrive tomorrow. We support over 700 adults each year who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness in Rotherham and the surrounding areas. We work with rough sleepers, sofa-surfers, people in temporary accommodation, and those facing eviction.

Our services are open to all adults, regardless of sex, gender, race, language, disability, religion, or sexual orientation. We provide trustworthy, non-authoritative, and inclusive support tailored to each person’s needs.

Understanding the Challenges

Many of our guests (our term for service users) experience multiple disadvantages, including:

  • Poverty and financial hardship

  • Trauma and adverse childhood experiences

  • Poor mental health

  • Substance misuse

A 2025 survey highlighted the complex realities our guests face: struggling to access work or healthcare, experiencing judgment, or surviving crime-related trauma. Half of our guests had experienced long-term homelessness, with 8% homeless for over a decade, emphasising the need for sustained, personalised support.

Emergency & Crisis Support

For rough sleepers, sofa-surfers, and those in unsuitable accommodation, we prioritise immediate safety and essentials, including:

  • Food, clothing, and showers

  • Bedding and laundry services

  • Phone and computer access

  • Emergency food parcels

Our safe space also provides practical advice and support, helping them meet basic needs while beginning to tackle the underlying issues of their homelessness.

Progression Support, Advice & Guidance

All guests can receive tailored support to stabilise housing and build independence, including:

  • Housing advice and early intervention

  • Landlord advocacy and tenancy guidance

  • Assistance accessing benefits, healthcare, and banking

  • Support for mental health, substance misuse, and life skills

Guests working closely with our progression team develop personalised action plans that address both immediate and long-term needs. These plans are regularly reviewed and adapted to ensure support remains practical, empowering, and relevant.

Although we are not a housing provider, our staff can help guests understand their housing options, overcome barriers, and access practical or financial assistance to move into new accommodation.

Creating Community & Connections

Loneliness and isolation are common among our guests - 100% reported feeling isolated in a recent survey. Creating opportunities for connection is central to our work. Simple activities help guests build friendships and a sense of belonging, including:

  • Sharing meals

  • Board games and puzzles

  • Gardening

  • Arts and crafts

Shiloh is more than a service - it’s a supportive, welcoming community where people feel valued and included.
