Modern Slavery Statement 2025-26

This statement is provided on behalf of Shiloh Rotherham and is made in accordance with section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (‘the Act’).

Although Shiloh Rotherham, as a small charity with an annual turnover of less than £36 million, is not legally required to publish this statement, we have chosen to do so as a matter of best practice.

Shiloh Rotherham is firmly opposed to modern slavery in all its forms and is committed to identifying, managing, and reviewing the risks related to modern slavery within our operations.

What is Modern Slavery?
Modern slavery occurs when an individual is exploited - either for personal or commercial gain - controlled or held captive, or threatened or punished to prevent them from escaping or reporting abuse. Under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, this includes the offences of slavery, servitude, and forced or compulsory labour, as well as human trafficking, where a person is moved between or within countries to be exploited.

Anyone can be a victim of modern slavery, although some individuals may be more at risk due to factors such as poverty, social or health issues, age, or immigration status. The abuse may involve coercion, threats, punishment, or violence.

Our Safeguarding Response
Shiloh Rotherham addresses modern slavery through our Adult Safeguarding Policy, where it is recognised as a form of abuse. In any instance of suspected modern slavery, our immediate actions include:

● Contacting the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700 or filing a report at modernslaveryhelpline.org/report

● Notifying South Yorkshire Police on 101, or calling 999 if there is immediate danger

● Encouraging the local authority and police to refer the case to the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) to ensure appropriate victim support

Whistleblowing
Our Whistleblowing Policy outlines how staff can raise concerns, including those related to modern slavery, without fear of retaliation. We explicitly state that employees will not face dismissal or detriment for whistleblowing in good faith.

Recruitment
Shiloh Rotherham employs staff directly and does not typically use recruitment agencies or agency staff - areas often considered higher risk for modern slavery.

Training
All staff receive regular Safeguarding training, which includes awareness of modern slavery and how to identify related risks. Additional training will be provided to those involved in recruitment or procurement.

Procurement, Partnerships & Funders
We are committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in all areas of our work, including the selection and management of suppliers, partners, and funders. We aim to engage only with reputable and responsible organisations that align with our values and comply with all relevant laws and ethical practices, including those related to modern slavery and human trafficking.

Where concerns arise regarding unlawful conduct, unethical behaviour, or non-compliance with our principles, including any indications of modern slavery, we will take immediate action. This may include investigation and, where necessary, the termination of the relationship.

Ongoing Commitment
We are committed to embedding this statement into our operations by:

● Raising awareness of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 among staff and advising them on how to respond to suspected cases

● Ensuring that staff involved in recruitment and procurement receive training on modern slavery and ethical employment practices

● Including references to modern slavery and human trafficking in all of Shiloh’s agreements and contracts

This statement forms part of our safeguarding practice and will be reviewed annually.
